اَلسَلامُ عَلَيْكُم وَرَحْمَةُ اَللهِ وَبَرَكاتُهُ‎

I’m Atiyah!

Welcome to my blog which encompasses all things faith and activism based.

As a young Muslim woman, based in London but growing up in a world filled with injustices in every corner, I want to live a purposeful life and be an advocate for change. Muslim women, myself included, often fall into the impression that our relationship with our faith has to be compromised in order to achieve great things in the 21st century. I aim to be a living proof that this is simply a misconception.

My identity does not hinder my role as an activist, rather it fuels it. Muslims have been made “trustees (khulafaa) on the earth after them, to see how [they] would act.” [Quran 10:15] So, as stewards of the Earth, who will be held accountable for their actions, we Muslims must do our very best to be involved in political spaces that will allow us to have a seat at the table, whilst holding on to the values of our faith.

This blog has been designed as a safe space for me to share my views on global issues that are significant to me. Instead of waiting to be given a platform, I have created my own so that my voice, and the voice of other women, are heard.

I will leave you with one of my favourite sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him):

"Whosoever of you sees an evil action, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart- and that is the weakest of faith."

I hope you enjoy reading.
